For this project, I chose to work alone because the people I usually work with decided to work alone. Therefore, by default, I have to work solo. The idea for my movie opener that I have thought of is an action/ thriller movie about a person living in a time loop who goes through trial and error to stop themselves from dying.

Film Elements, Narrative, and Characters Blog Post

Genre *The Last Of Us series has action, drama, and thriller elements. This show is a successful example of a show combining the genres of Action, drama, and Thriller. It is a scary show but has action-fighting scenes within it, all while adding an emotional aspect to the different traumas the characters go through. The successful hybridity of the genres can attract all people who enjoy each genre. A person who may not like the genre Drama but does enjoy Thrillers and action will be attracted to the show because of how fluid the combination of genres is. The audience's expectation of the text for all three genres is to have emotional acting and scenes, fast-paced fighting scenes, and suspenseful build-up that makes it a thriller.  Narrative * The story revolves ...

Sound Project Blog Post

Why is sound or the lack of sound so important to a scene in a film?  What kind of messages can it send an audience?-  Sound or the lack of sound in a film can add more context and mood than dialogue. It is important to use the correct type of music for a scene to determine tone. For example, a scene might have happy smiling people but if there is sad music the audience might interpret the scene as bittersweet rather than happy like it was intended to. Just like how music is important, the lack of music is just as impactful. A scene where a character has lost their hearing would need silence to show their hearing loss, it wouldn't make sense to add music in a scene like that Explain why it was or was not difficult to come up with sound ideas for a story that would not have visuals for the audience to see.- It was easier to come up with a story using only sound. Using only sound had less technical and difficult elements than a video film would have. Making foley sound ef...

Movie Rating post

Tells a story which holds the audiences' attention- I would give the film 20 points for this category. Almost every scene had an intense action scene, creating a nerve-wracking atmosphere throughout the entire movie. The first 10 minutes of the movie show a young woman in her car falling down the side of a mountain while the rescue team had a difficult time trying to rescue her out of the car. The last 10 minutes of the movie show the main character Ray performing CPR on his daughter who almost drowned to death. Demonstrates camera work and editing which enhances the story- I would give this film 15 points for this category. The camera work is good and very dynamic, which adds storytelling and drama to the film. However, the number of quick pans and fast scenes overshadow the calmer and slower scenes which makes the film seem too energetic. This eliminates a lot of space to create a story and instead fills it with action scenes that do not add anything.  Contains dialogue, narratio...

Movie Analysis Post

Image
The movie I chose to watch and analyze is the 2015 movie produced by Brad Peyton called San Andreas. It is an action natural disaster movie. There are several uses of aerial shots, wide shots, and two shots. The first scene of the movie shows a close-up shot of a young woman driving in a car on a road on the side of a mountain. The back-and-forth camera angles between the young woman and the car driving down the road add tension to the situation. Then a POV shot of the inside of the car shows the car and the young woman falling down the side of the mountain. The shaky camera movement combined with the POV shot adds an ample amount of intensity and action to the scene as well as it adds anxiety to the young woman's situation. Toward the middle of the movie, there is a scene using a Two-shot camera angle, showing the two main characters, Ray and Emma in a helicopter. The intense dialogue and intimate close angle demonstrate the trust the two characters are gaining for each other Whic...
