First Blog Post!

 My name is Vivian Boyd I am 14 years old and from South Florida. I enjoy being with family and friends, playing video games, cooking, swimming, and creative writing. I am a part of my high school's Marching band and enjoy listening to and playing music. I am passionate about traveling and learning about new cultures. I am good at science and particularly good at biology, earning an excellence award, and have thought about doing a career in science. I love creative media and analyzing it to find its true meaning whether that be music, movies, video games, or art.


From this class, I hope to learn more about film and its origins and how to analyze and come to conclusions about film. Learning more about creative film is something I am interested in. Film is a big part of my life and I would like to know about how it came about and how it has expanded and upgraded over the years. I hope to watch iconic and important films in this class and discover all the metaphors these films may be using. Analyzing a film's individual scenes, and its overall big picture is something I want to dig deeper into and I hope to learn about different movie directors thought processes for creating their films.

Movie Analysis Post

The movie I chose to watch and analyze is the 2015 movie produced by Brad Peyton called San Andreas. It is an action natural disaster movie. There are several uses of aerial shots, wide shots, and two shots. The first scene of the movie shows a close-up shot of a young woman driving in a car on a road on the side of a mountain. The back-and-forth camera angles between the young woman and the car driving down the road add tension to the situation. Then a POV shot of the inside of the car shows the car and the young woman falling down the side of the mountain. The shaky camera movement combined with the POV shot adds an ample amount of intensity and action to the scene as well as it adds anxiety to the young woman's situation. Toward the middle of the movie, there is a scene using a Two-shot camera angle, showing the two main characters, Ray and Emma in a helicopter.
